Cheap Travel - Travel tips

Found this brochure when I browse around my old stuff. Believe it or not, I still keep my green Matta 2009 bag with its full content.

In summary, this brochure tells us that, as a tourist if we are engaged to any licensed travel agent we are protected by Ministry of Tourism under their acts.

Hence, it is highly recommended that if we are going to engaged any travel agent -be it domestic or international holiday- we must:
  • get a licensed one,
  • understand the terms and conditions of the package,
  • the provided transportation services must be licensed by Ministry of Tourism, and
  • same goes to travel guide
Ministry of Tourism also do take complaints should we have any dissatisfaction with our travel agent with regards to:
  • travel agent or tour operator
  • tour transportation
  • tour guide
  • accommodation
  • tourism information service
This is just the summary of it, at least we already know that there is an authority governing into this matter should we have any problem. I'm sure there must a lot more information to be explored.

Check them out!!!

Cheap Travel - Penang: War Museum

Like an unsung hero, this is one of the less known place in Penang in spite of the experience and knowledge it can offer.

Started as British Fortress in 1930, Bukit Maung then transformed into a Japanese army base with a dark history, filled with stories of how prisoners were tortured there. After the fallen of Japanese army in 1945, Bukit Maung was abandoned by the locals because of its black history.

After several years of restoration, the fortress was turned into the War Museum some decades later. A slow walk through the fortress will fire the imagination on what once was. A simple, but no less remarkable section of crawling through some of the underground tunnels – one even leads all the way to the sea, acting as an access tunnel to get to submarines – forces one to walk, or even crawl through very narrow, confined places.

As the area is quite big, 2 hours here might be enough for you to walk and climb the stairs that abound on this hill. Proper signages and information about the artifacts are clearly displayed here. As it can be quite humid and hot during the day, remember to bring along a cap to protect your head from the heat of the day. Wear a comfortable shoes and have insect repellant ready to ward off the mosquitoes as you move deeper into the hill.

Cheap Travel - Selangor: Broga Hill

One of the view in between the peaks

Broga Hill is rapidly climbing the ranking in the heart of nature lovers nowadays. Located around 50km from KL towards south near Semenyih, its a very nice place to see sunrise and sunset. At the peak of the Broga hill, the view is awesome.

It is relatively easy to climb up as the trail are well marked and there are a lot of Malaysian climbers (especially during weekend) who are very friendly and helpful. It takes about 30-40 minutes to climb up to the first peak.

The trail at Broga Hill. Pretty well marked, makes climbing relatively easy

Broga has about 3 peaks where you can have a very amazing scenery while riding on the breeze.

During weekend, you might want to get there a bit early - I really mean very early, as early as 5am in the morning - as there will be a lot of climbers and the car park is not enough. The first time I went there, about 630am the car already spill out to the main road and need to walk more than 100 meters just to get to the entrance.

How to get to Broga Hill:
